About
Janice Tay is a Singaporean writer and a former journalist at The Straits Times with more than 15 years' experience in editing, copy tasting and page design. She graduated from the University of Oxford with a first-class honours degree in English Language and Literature.
After moving to Kyoto to immerse herself in various forms of Japanese culture, Janice began a fortnightly column on Japan which ran in The Straits Times from 2007 to 2013. Kyoto Unhurried, a collection of travel essays based on the column, was released in 2016. Her debut novel, The Memory Eaters, was published a year later. Set in an alternative feudal Japan, the historical fantasy explores how memory shapes perception and experience.
Janice has since been exploring possibilities online with photography and writing geared towards social media platforms. She continues to live in Japan, helping students and professionals to introduce Japanese culture to a wider audience.
